Good-night, sweet prince.

Kol passed away quietly around 9:10pm tonight, in our van, on our way home to Outlook, surrounded by his loving family. We are now home in Outlook, with our families either already here or on their way. Thank you all so much for your continued prayers and support. We thank God that Kol is free from pain and suffering. And we thank God for his promises to comfort and sustain us through the trials of life. Amen.

My sincere sympathy to you, Kirk and Kristen. It is 4:a.m. here and I woke up and had an urge to read your blog. We have been praying here at the school and church and will continue to pray for you and your family. Kol has been in my heart from the beginning and although it's terribly rough to lose a child, we can rejoice knowing that he is in the arms of Jesus, pain-free, and oh, so happy. He is a super-hero now without doubt. It is a blessing to know that he is alive and well, and his family and friends will be united again with him for all eternity. What a glorious hope!

  17. David and I are keeping all of you in our prayers. We know this is a difficult time, we also know you are not alone - the Lord is with you, and if anyone knows the pain of a child dying, it is our dear Heavenly Father. It is good to know Kol is with Him now, pain free, healthy, happy, in the arms of Jesus - and yes, Kol is a super-hero for sure. Our love and prayers will be with you through the coming days and weeks. With love and prayers, Stephanie and David Spindler

  22. Today our family will gather for the funeral service for our beloved Howard. Mourning the loss of a 76 year old husband, father and grandpa cannot compare with your loss of nine year old Kol. We have a grandson that age and our hearts ache as we think of what you and your family are going through, and have gone through with the ravages of cancer. and when you pass through the rivers,

  41. A friend of mine asked for prayer for Kol last night. I read your blog and became overwhelmed with the beautiful story that you have allowed God to write in the midst of your intense pain and suffering over these past few years. And I wake up this morning to hear that he is in Glory. I know this journey has been much longer, much more painful, much more exasperating, much more stretching than the 12 hours that I knew about it. Know that this little man (the superhero!) and your family have spoken very strongly about the God whom you serve! That is cool. It gives hope and it helps the rest of us turn to this God that walked you through your darkness. Thanks for pointing to HIM throughout this journey and giving HIM the glory. Tears roll down my face as I write this, and I have never met Kol or his wonderful family. This is the power of how you have allowed God to use you through this trial. May you continue to allow God to write your story as you grieve the loss of Kol and enter into a whole new and challenging realm of this journey. May your faith be unswerving!
    Love,
    A sister in the Lord

  42. As I sit and read through the blog, I cannot possibly find words that accurately express my feelings. I wish the words would come as easily as the tears, but that doesn't seem to be happening. Please know that your family is and will be for some time in our thoughts and prayers. Since I met you I have had nothing but admiration for your family in the way you handled such a trying and difficult situation.

As a parent I always looked at the fight you were constantly battling and had the utmost respect for you and were so marvelled at the way you were able to continue.

As someone living with a brain tumor, I found great inspiration from Kol. I found it amazing on how he was able to pull positivity from such a difficult situation. He was more than a Super Hero in my eyes. Being privledged enough to have spent some time around Kol has made a big difference in my life and will help me for the rest of my days. There are many people who could have learned so much from such an amazing boy. This is a credit to your whole family as he never would have learned this without an amazing support team.

I pray and hope that you all will at some point take comfort in the fact that you did all you could to help Kol. Unfortunately our God has a plan for each and every one of us that at times sees our friends and loved ones leave us earlier than we wish them to. I also pray and hope that you will somehow be able to find comfort and peace through this difficult time.

  51. Dear Kristen, Kirk, Julianna, Mari, Birgitte, and Annika,

Our hearts are heavy today as we think of each of you. We have been so blessed that you have allowed us to share in your journey over the past two years.

You have shown such courage and vulnerability in sharing Kol's battle with us. You have demonstrated your faith in Jesus even in the darkest times. Kol certainly knew that he was well loved by you....that you would do anything..what a marvelous gift.

We pray that the Lord would give you His peace as you gather wonderful memories of Kol and celebrate his life - the life of a "Super Hero".

"Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him." 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

  58. It is the heartbreaking stories of young children like your sweet little prince, Kol, who spend their lives fighting the terrible battle of cancer, that have inspired me to run a marathon for children's cancer. My thoughts linger especially on your little boy, who never got the chance to live the life most of us get to, growing up in small-town Outlook. My heart goes out to your family and your little Kol will leave a lasting legacy in the lives of many. My run this upcoming weekend, will be for those strong, courageous children and their families going through the trial of cancer, and most certainly in memory of your precious little boy. My deepest condolences and God bless your family.

    I have unanswered prayers
    I have trouble I wish wasn't there
And I have asked a thousand ways
That you would take my pain away
You would take my pain away

    I am trying to understand
How to walk this weary land
Make straight the paths that crooked lie
Oh Lord, before these feet of mine
Oh Lord, before these feet of mine

When my world is shaking, heaven stands
    When my heart is breaking
    I never leave your hands

When you walked upon the earth
You healed the broken, lost and hurt
I know you hate to see me cry
One day you will set all things right
Yeah, one day you will set all things right

When my world is shaking, heaven stands
    When my heart is breaking
    I never leave your hands

Your hands that shaped the world
    Are holding me
    They hold me still

When my world is shaking, heaven stands
    When my heart is breaking
    I never leave your hands
